On Friday, a scandal-hit Makerere University Business School and a day later the Institution is yet to get to terms with the plight that cost over 400 students over defaulting 2.64 billion Uganda shillings debt yet the said debtor cries fall. "But otherwise, to us; I think that the money being demanded is the money that possibly or rightfully belongs to us. But some kind of over in guiding."
Prof. Wasswa Balunywa Principal of Makerere University Business School further smells a rat in the decision taken. “I don’t know why it comes up this time? I think this causes panic and tense towards blackmail; if you don’t do this we do this.” The creditor Makerere University defends the call according to Vice Chancellor Barnabas Nawangwe. “The last meeting which I chaired, the MUBS’s team said once we have agreed on the reconciled figures, we are going to pay. Unfortunately, they went back and did nothing until I think they were informed no if you are not paying then the Council decision which was made two years ago but we have been postponing it not to graduate MUBS students unless they have cleared paid their fees. Then the decision will now be implemented.”
As the deadlock had biting consequences to the Nakawa based Institution as MUBS Principal Wasswa Balunywa. "So it's not fair to conduct students and the parents towards graduation to say they will not graduate. There's nothing to do with them and most likely; these are people who finished in June last year, they have no business with Makerere.” According to Prof. Barnabas Nawangwe, Makerere University Business School has not been remitting money for academic years 2012/2013 and 2016/2017 which has mounted to such figures. Makerere University Business School is affiliated with Makerere University since 1997.
