Ismail Mulindwa a Commission in the Ministry of Education, Sports and Technology said the Chinese partnership with the Ministry was not only aimed at educating Ugandans but also to enable them to transact business for economic purposes as China was now a major business hub. “And we need to use this language, it has become a barrier to a certain extent that many of our people cannot transact well just because of the limitation of the language. So it is important for the education system here to develop that language because the Chinese government or Chinese people are forming a very formidable partner group so we can’t ignore that fact.” Said, Ismail Mulindwa – Commissioner, Ministry of Education.

This as China offered scholarships to disadvantaged Ugandan students to continue studying. Zhao Xiufen Counselor of economics at the Embassy of China in Uganda said that their scholarships for disadvantaged students were aimed at enabling Ugandans to achieve the Middle-Income Status in 2020. “...helping them to complete their studies. We are there more times for Uganda and we are also happy that Uganda has more girls who are still on the go to reach the Middle Income Status in 2020.” Said, Zhao Xiufen – Counselor, Chinese Embassy. “Most of the time and overtime, they want to look out for jobs, the ones hunting for jobs because if the law in Chinese is well taking them to Chinese companies to get a good job. You say in general if you cannot speak Chinese and work in a Chinese company may be the salary is lower but if you can speak in Chinese so you get more salary in a Chinese company.” Said, Prof. Hong Yonghong – Director, Confucius Institute.

Luyanzi College in Bweyogerere is one of the schools that adopted the teaching of the Chinese language to their students. These with the support of the Chinese Embassy and the Confucius Institute.
