Though more investors continue to ask the government for land to set up industries and create more jobs, many of those who have been given land have not developed it. According to Evelyn Anite the Minister of State for Investments and Privatization, another tenure investors are to lose their land despite more investors showing more interest. “Late last year, we withdrew land from 15 so at the moment I can tell you like about 10 are at the verge of losing the land because they are not developing it.” Said, Evelyn Anite – Minister of State for Investments and Privatization.
Anite says that much as more investors are coming into the country and are being allocated land, they need to mind Uganda’s industrialization’s plan and job creation. “Still talking to them and encouraging them because our role and my role as Minister of Investments is to encourage them as much as possible to ensure that they develop the lad or put infrastructure in the land that was given to them. So if they can give us for some reason for those who cannot perform at all, maybe they were speculators so we want to cut down on speculation.”
Paul Kyabaggu is one of the local investors who is dealing in agrochemical products who says he is seeking land in Namanve Industrial Park to set up a multi-billion investment to expand his business. But he says though some are failing to put the land into use, local investors need to be allocated land to boost their firm. “Where we are here is an area of 2 acres which has become very small for us because we want to expand. Unfortunately, this land is not enough for our expansion.” Said, Paul Kyabaggu – Investor. In the ten Investments Parks, some investors are constructing well as others are still chasing paperwork which is dealing the government’s job creation plan.
