Passengers can now fly to numerous destinations across the region such as Entebbe, Addis Ababa, and Dar-es-salaam among others aboard this new bombardier next generation Q400 operated by Jambo jet a Kenyan firm. “Of course you will travel with others but the aim of the game is to grow the market such that you really attract new passengers who are not used to fly. You have many people who travel by road in our country and that takes quite a while. They do so because they cannot afford to fly.” Said, William Hondius – Chief Executive Officer, Jambojet Limited
Benon Kajuna the Director for Transport in the Ministry of Works was optimistic that the regional operator will spur the airline growth as well as boost cross-border business. “The government of Uganda, therefore, welcomes the model of low-cost carriers in the aviation sector to ensure that all classes of passengers are provided for in the market. The essence of a low-cost carrier on the Entebbe Nairobi route is to tremendously reduce transport cost for passengers and cargo and hence reduce the cost of doing business, and also increase the traffic of passengers and cargo on the same.” Said, Benon Kajuna – Director of Transport, Ministry of Works.
Civil Aviation Authority Managing Director David Kakuba said the ongoing infrastructure upgrades at the Entebbe International Airport are well and upon schedule to support more Airlines in and out of the facility. “The ongoing works for expansion of the passenger terminal building from internally generated CAA revenues to enhance passenger facilitation and meet the growing traffic needs are at 22% level of completion. This entails modification of departure and arrival areas for a more rewarding passenger experience.” Said, David Kakuba – Managing Director, Civil Aviation Authority. Jambo jet was granted regulatory approval in 2016 to fly to 16 routes including Entebbe, Addis Ababa, Dar-es-salaam, and Zanzibar among others.
