Bible storiesI made an Executive decision to begin reading Bible stories to my children every evening, an idea I have since abandoned due to the questions fired my way, the same questions I used to ask my mum, those which I do not have answers to date.

I read them the story of creation and was asked how a tree grew in one day yet the seed one of my boys planted in August last year as his school project took three weeks to germinate and was still shorter than his baby brother. I tried to explain that one day was, in fact, a long time, and left them even more confused.

Then came the story of Noah, I was asked what food Noah ate in the ark for forty days and nights, did he, in fact, consume the animals he was meant to protect?

I was then tasked to explain what happened to all those people who died, my five years old said he did not envy Noah having to bury all those dead stinky people all by himself.

When I read the story of Jonah in the fish's mouth, my three years old assured me that it was impossible for a man to fit in a fish’s mouth, and suggested that Jonah should have just taken the fish home for his mummy to cook.

Geez, I abandoned the project when I could not explain how Mary was impregnated by the Holy Spirit. I have decided to shift this responsibility to their Sunday school teachers.

For now, I will concentrate on to imparting them with the life skills they need to survive in this harsh world. Discipline, respect, work, and independence.
