imageThe most popular social media app in Uganda is facebook, it's a platform where every single Ugandan with a smartphone meets. Facebook has become so powerful and significant in an ordinary Ugandans life.

smart people use it as a business tool, some have been able to sell and buy solely on Facebook , others abuse it by using it to bring other people down.we have seen couples break up because a nude was leaked, a secret was revealed.

Jilted lovers have attempted to jeopardize their exes relationships using Facebook . some have succeeded, others have not. Facebook police remains the most effective way a common man can get the attention of the police after all other doors have been closed,.not only the police but also other organizations.

So yes, Facebook is a very powerful app in Uganda with both positives and negatives and from the looks of things, it is here to stay.

Now back to our topic today of facebook charities, several people have opened up groups which have a huge following, the administrators of such groups from time to time raise funds to help causes and yes people do come out to contribute and give generously to such causes.

Funds have been raised for cancer victims, school fees, jobs have been found for the jobless, food donated to mention but a few. There are several success stories that have come out of these facebook charities.

However, sometimes the kindness of the givers is abused as some people concoct stories to gain sympathy and end up defrauding people of their money. As a result of this, people have become hesitant to give and those in need end up losing out because of a few bad apples.

Due to the frequent stories of fraudsters, the administrators nowadays take the time to verify the stories, go on the ground to establish the truth before posting, they also collect the funds in one pool and hand them over collectively.

This has helped to greatly reduce the incidences of fraud. There have been a few incidences of administrators running off with the funds collected, however, these are few and far between.

As it is, I am very proud of the generosity shown by Ugandans, the way they stop bickering and fighting and come together for a good cause.
