Very disturbing events my eyes have seen and my ears have heard this week. Grand Imperial Hotel is one of the long-standing hotels in Kampala city, popular for its proximity within the town and has generally been around forever. Someone shared a video on Facebook of a white old American guest verbally and physically assaulting one of their staff. He goes on to abuse all Ugandans, insults the country he has come to visit all in the name of Jesus! As I watched in horror my fists tightened waiting for the staff to react to this abuse, he acted with a restraint that I guess only angels have and let the visibly drunk old racist insult him, he even went ahead to call him less human, Nigga!
This is not the first time I have seen a white man behave like this in my country. one time my girls and I went camping in Jinja, and the owner blatantly sent us away because we were black, well we decided to stay on and have a verbal exchange with him, we found out he was South African who had carried his apartheid tendencies to Uganda and we let him have it, he eventually succumbed but we decided not to give our money to a racist.
I have witnessed a white man call his wife a black monkey and insult her on how he married her just so that he and his friends would find out what it is like to sleep with a monkey. This girl was a very quiet Lugbara, she plotted her revenge, waited the next day when the man had gone to work and poured cooking oil on her tiled floor, when he returned from work he fell on the slippery floor, she beat him up seriously and told him that's how black monkeys react when insulted, the man quietly packed out if their home, hopefully, he stayed far from black monkeys.
Racism exists and is brutal especially when you travel from home, I swore to my self that I would never tolerate any racist remark in the comfort of my country, white people who think they are superior to us should stay in their countries and not bother us back home.
As I continue to follow up that story, I am keen to know how the Grand Imperial Hotel handled this matter, because frankly, this was a case of assault on their staff on their premises.
The Uganda Police after watching the video, swung into action and arrested the racist, he is being charged with assault, we wait to see if they will actually produce him in court knowing how corrupt the force is.
The white man was identified as Jimmy Taylor, an American ex-marine/navy and is indeed a missionary, in visiting his Facebook page, he does proudly claim to be a Trump supporter, liberally uses the "f" word on each sentence as Jesus. If these are the kind of Christians we have, claiming to speak for Jesus, Jesus must look down and shake his head in disappointment. The Ugandan receptionist acted more Christian than the so-called missionary, hopefully, he can learn from him.
