The Perfect Get Away!

I had a very busy week, so much to do, so little time, the project I was working on an interesting and had challenged me to the last core, I had pushed my body and brain to the limit. I could feel my body shutting down as I stared at the computer screen. I couldn’t seem to recall what words I intended to type. I get up and went to make myself some coffee and I carry my plastic cup filled with my black, strong coffee to the desk and continue to stare blankly at the computer. It was Wednesday and the clock hanging on the wall right across from my desk showed that it was just 10am. I picked my bag and slipped out of office quietly hoping that no one would notice me. The guard at the gate tried to engage me in a conversation but I was in no mood. I drove around and ended up taking a turn at a narrow winding road. I wanted to get to the top of the hill. The road was tarmacked with a very good drainage system which was rare in this Kampala. reading from the signposts along this narrow road, the area was called Kizungu and I assumed that it was a “Muzungu” neighborhood. White people are referred to as Bazungu locally. This was a very organized neighborhood with beautiful houses and large compounds surrounded by imposing perimeter walls and it was clearly an area for the affluent. It was quiet and deserted void of people or cars. I drove uphill as I wanted to see what was at the top of this Kizungu hill. The road ended at a very big beautiful but imposing house, the person who resided here had a clear view of Kampala. I parked my car and got out and was met with a very breathtaking view of Kampala! It was one of those rare days in Kampala where the weather was just perfect, neither too hot or cold just perfect. From up here you could see most of Kampala. I could identify Muyenga and Old Kampala hills. It was an image of perfection. I began to wish that I had come along with a chair and my thermos of coffee and probably a good book, I would spend the rest of my day here in solace. I imagined the people who lived here had no bad mornings, waking up to such a beautiful view every morning.
